What is the purpose of the
March?

The mission of Unity March for Puerto Rico is to stand in solidarity - ONE people - ONE voice- against unjust laws that have been systematically oppressive and crippling to the people of Puerto Rico and the socio-economic growth and sustainability of the island.  We are asking that our leaders ACT NOW and make the necessary legislative changes to the Jones Act to uplift the people of Puerto Rico and hearten, support and sustain the economic growth of the island.

Our goal is to establish a council under Project Puerto Rico that will serve and lead in efforts of legislative reform and serve as the liaisons between the people of Puerto Rico and the administration and its leadership to ensure viable but just legislative changes the will serve the people of Puerto Rico.

In relation to the socio-economic impact of the Jones Act, our agenda includes items like: the cancellation of the debt and the rebuilding efforts of the island of Puerto Rico. Our goal is to establish a council under Project Puerto Rico that will serve and lead in efforts of legislative reform and serve as the liaisons between the people of Puerto Rico and the administration and its leadership to ensure viable but just legislative changes that will serve the people of Puerto Rico.

Who is organizing this?

A network of grassroots organizers have teamed up to get the March moving forward. We are in the process of securing organizational endorsements while ensuring this march is about the People of Puerto Rico and the Diaspora coming together as one. In order to ensure we have the capacity needed a National Steering Committee was formed.

You can find the members and their bios here(3 of which are from CT!): https://www.unitymarchforpuertorico.com/national-committee-1/

How will we get there?

The CT Contingent will be offering 3 buses to D.C. Leaving SATURDAY at noon and leaving DC at 5pm on Sunday. This will mean you will need to find overnight lodging in DC. There are some free housing spots available in DC with supportive residents who live in The area.

We decided to go with Saturday buses because overnight buses were twice as expensive. Leaving on Saturday also provided for time for everyone to rest before a long day of marching.

If these buses do not make sense for your needs, we encourage you to find others and carpool to D.C. You can post your need for a ride in our facebook group here:

Round trip bus tickets are Roughly $90, with  $10 discounts for the first 10 riders to sign up. Exact prices listed on each page with the price for your ticket.

*Exact pick up locations will be announced closer to departure time.

What if I can’t afford a ticket and housing?

The ticket price is necessary to make the trip on one of our buses. We can possibly find free housing with a supportive resident of D.C. If you can not afford the bus price, we recommend finding someone driving down who has an extra seat. You can inquire about other who are driving down on our CT contingent page here: https://www.facebook.com/events/297538300730858/
